War Between the States

War fought in the United States, 1861-1865.  The war ultimately resolved the long-standing controversy over slavery in the United States with the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment shortly after the conclusion of the war.  The war pitted the Union (United States of America) against the Rebels (Confederate States of America).
