A week before Constitution Day in Murrieta, California I spoke at the Constitution Association Annual Dinner and I told the audience that while we were not originally designed to be a democracy, voting has always been an important part of the American System. Our republic is filled with checks and balances, many of which have been either targeted, or eliminated, by the enemies of the Constitution. Over time the progressive collectivist left has pushed more and more for democracy because they know that democracy is the road to socialism.
This is not to say that there are not supposed to be any democratic provisions to our American System. The House of Representatives, for example, has always been populated by a democratic vote of the people, and the number has always been determined by population.
That all said, voting is very important, and a part of our civic duty as citizens of this great republic. Yet, so many people don’t vote and often those who don’t vote in elections could swing the vote in a different direction if they decided to cast their vote in elections.
Once I heard, a statistic confirmed by a conversation I had with my sheriff down in California, that aside from Texas, California has more legal gun owners than any other State of the Union. Yet, only about half of those gun owners vote.
In 2016 Ted Cruz exclaimed that only about half of Evangelical Christians eligible to vote are registered to vote, and out of those who are registered, only about half of them actually vote. I checked his numbers, and they were accurate not only nationally, but also translated to about the same percentages in California. In the case of the Golden State, about 49% of Christians eligible to vote are registered, and about half of those registered actually vote. That means about one in four Christians is pulling a lever (old way of saying “voting”) on Election Day. If all legal gun owners, and Christians, were voting their values they could flip California in one election, and send America back into a Constitutional direction.
Todd Starnes’ website confirmed our fears about a week ago: “More than 25 million Christians who are registered to vote do not vote in presidential elections. And as many as 65 million Christians do not vote in local elections, according to statistics published by My Faith Votes.”
Knowing that the enemies of the Constitution have used nefarious schemes to pull off electoral wins in the past, it is important to do what we can to overwhelm their efforts; or as Trump puts it, make it too big to rig.” That’s what happened in 2016, and almost happened in 2020. They will commit voter fraud. They will do everything they can to stop Trump, MAGA Republicans, and anyone who opposes their anti-Constitution agenda. In return, we need to at least show up and do what we can to overpower their push to take our liberty from us – voting is an important part of that effort.
